Projects > 100 Market St, Westfield Sydney Redevelopment
Quatro Design manufactured the sculptural art panels that frame the entrance to the commercial tower that is part of Westfield’s redevelopment of the Centrepoint Tower precinct in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.
Brisbane-based Urban Art Projects (UAP) was contracted to supply the artwork for the project, and internationally renowned artist, Dani Marti, was commissioned to create the woven rope sculpture which became the pattern for the silicone moulds. Quatro Design then made the 2.2 x 1.5 metre panels in GRC.
The original intent was to make the panels in precast concrete. However, the weight of the precast panels, together with the heavy steel frames required to support them, led UAP to adopt the GRC alternative. The considerably lighter GRC panels were more easily handled on site, and were fixed to the building with a simple split batten system.
The 7 metre high wall is fast becoming a Sydney landmark with many passersbys stopping to touch and feel the intricate detail in the panels.
