About Us

Quatro Design has been manufacturing GRC products here in Australia since 2004.  We have now grown to become the largest supplier of GRC products to the landscape industry in this country.  We also manufacture GRC products for the building industry including architectural elements, panels, columns, domes, etc.  

Up until the end of 2009 our factory was located at Billinudgel near Byron Bay.  In January 2010 we moved to much larger premises at Currumbin on Queensland’s Gold Coast.  We welcome inquiries from designers, builders, landscapers, and the general public. 

Our people

Here at Quatro Design, our dedicated team includes an experienced production crew, mould-makers and admin staff.  On the Gold Coast John Curry and Alex Huybens manage the day-to-day running of the operation while in Sydney Chris North is Business Development Manager.  John and Chris are founding shareholders.

The Process

The process we use for creating GRC products combines modern equipment with skilled craftmanship.  We manufacture using the concentric spray process which achieves the highest concentration of fiberglass chopped strands in the GRC matrix (5% by weight), thereby ensuring a high-strength product.  [Read more on the About GRC page.] 

To make a product, we first prepare the mould by adding a release agent to the surface.  Next, a sand and cement render is made up using a high-speed shear mixer.  The render mix is then pumped to the spray gun head which also cuts continuous fibreglass roving into short lengths of around 25-35mm.  The render and the chopped fibreglass strands come together as they exit the spray gun. 

The skilled spray operater now sprays the combined render and fibreglass strands on to the mould surface.  Other staff come behind and compact the GRC material using hand rollers.  Two or more layers may be required to build up the material to the desired thickness.  The product is then left to cure overnight.  It is usually demoulded the next day, detailed and allowed to cure further for several more days. 

GRC manufacture using this process is relatively labour intensive but it acheives the highest quality result. 

Quality materials and systems

At Quatro Design we use only high quality materials in our manufacturing process.  A key component in GRC is alkali-resistant fiberglass (ARG).  We use continuous fibreglass roving manufactured by Owens Cornings (Cem-Fil) in the EU or by NEG in Japan. We do not use cheaper but inferior fiberglass materials.

We use high quality cement, sand and additives that conform to best practice in GRC manufacturing.

Quatro Design is located at 21 Traders Way, Currumbin, on Queensland’s Gold Coast where we have a large manufacturing facility, product display and factory shop.  We welcome your visit.
